BTS, a time when brilliance and anxiety coexist!
Mini album
BTS releases electro hip-hop song ‘I NEED U’! A combination of oriental melody and hip hop!
BTS finished their ‘School Trilogy’! This time we sing “Youth”! The beginning of ‘Youth Part 2’!
[Youth, the mOST beautiful moment of life!]
BTS is back with their third mini album . This is an album where you can meet BTS, who are no longer just young boys, but are growing up little by little. Each track has a lyrical and pop feel, allowing you to feel big and small changes in the music.
BTS successfully completed the "School Trilogy" album, which encompasses dreams, happiness, and love, the biggest concerns of teenagers, and talks about "youth" through this album. ‘Hwayangyeonhwa’ means the most beautiful moment in life. BTS, who has just entered adolescence, took this moment where beauty and anxiety coexist as their theme. , which will be released on April 29, focuses on the precariousness of an uncertain future rather than the splendor of youth. In addition, while rappers (Rap Monster, Suga, J-Hope) have mainly participated in song work, this time vocal members (Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook) were also listed in the producing and composition credits. This is an album that allows you to feel the gradual growth of BTS musically.
[BTS wearing anxious youth]
BTS presents the most changed visuals since their debut. The intensity of glaring at the camera was removed a little, and instead the frame was filled with a more comfortable and languid atmosphere. The photo of used 'flowers', which most resemble youth, as its main subject. I left the studio and visited the Bomun complex in Gyeongju, famous for its cherry blossoms, the rape flower fields of Cheomseongdae, and the beach with a lonely sensibility. The cherry blossoms are in full BLOOm beautifully, but the eyes of BTS standing against the background look somewhat uneasy. The album's theme, the anxiety of youth, was expressed through breathtaking eyes contrasting with the bright scenery.
[Introducing the title song ‘I NEED U’]
'I NEED U', the title song of the third mini album , is an electro hip-hop song incorporating urban style. It is a song that combines an oriental main theme with lyricism and wild hip-hop. In terms of sound, the use of an electric source gIVEs it a different feel from BTS' past music. 'I NEED U' contains a heartbreaking desire to hold on to a love that is falling toward the end.
Through 'Boy in Luv', 'Danger', and 'I NEED U', BTS weaves the process of love beginning and ending into one story. BTS, who made a somewhat immature and cute confession in 'Boy in Luv' by saying, "I'll do it or not, your brother," expressed their frustration over a relationship that doesn't go their way through their next album 'Danger'. And this time, he sings about being anxious because of a love that seems like it will end. It overlaps with love that burns hot as if it will last forever but eventually cools off, and youth that BLOOms most beautifully but withers away with time, and can be said to be the song that best expresses the album's theme, 'Hwayangyeonhwa'.
[Song introduction]
1. Intro: Hwayangyeonhwa
An intro song that announces the beginning of . This song was co-produced by BTS's SUGA and composer Slow Rabbit, and contains the confusion and concerns experienced by boys who are still unfamiliar with the world. Suga used his hobby of basketball as the subject of his lyrics. He also demonstrated a sense of composing the sounds of a basketball bouncing, running on the court, and breathing into rhythm.
2. I NEED U
An electro hip-hop song incorporating urban style. It captures the feelings of a man who is heartbroken because of his fading love. 'I NEED U' is a song that is an extension of the love story that started with 'Boy in Luv', the title song of BTS' second mini album . It best reflects the entire album concept and can be said to be a sweet but very painful story about youth itself. ‘You are beautiful and so cold’ is the lyric that best shows the emotion of ‘I NEED U’.
3. Hold Me Tight
Contemporary R&B HipHop song based on a sophisticated piano melody. Member V participated in making the melody. This song corresponds to the story behind ‘Boy in Luv’. In 'Boy in Luv', he cONFessed with full of energy to hold me tight, while in 'Hold Me', he expressed the image of a man who has become small in front of love, begging to hold me tightly.
4. SKIT: Expectation!
This track is an honest conversation about thoughts on the last album and expectations for this album.
5. Awesome
An electronic hip-hop song featuring a saxophone. When I just heard the beat, I thought, ‘Let’s all hang out all night long!’ The lyrics of the same party tune come to mind, but BTS approached it from a more unique perspectIVE. They express their own hustle with lyrics such as ‘Half of the day is spent working’. They say practicing hard and making music while others are playing and having fun is our swag and confidence.
6. HeungTAN Boys
Retro Funk HipHop, a reinterpretation of 80's P-Funk with a modern sound. You can get a glimpse of SUGA's capabilities as a producer. This song was composed based on the nickname ‘Hungtan Boys’, which was gIVEn to them because they were very excited. What is special is that all members participated in the lyrics and wrote lyrics that fit their respectIVE characters. You can listen to it with excitement as it continues the atmosphere of the previously released 'Attack on Bulletproof' and 'Paldogangsan'.
7. Converse High
This song was pre-released at a solo concert held in Korea last March. It is based on Rap Monster's ideal type, 'a woman wearing Converse highs.' Rap Monster described this song as “a song that fulfills my selfish desires.” This song was originally writTEN for Rap Monster's first mixtape released in March, and was included in this album.
8. Moving
A song that lets you feel the nostalgia of 90s hip-hop that is popular in the New York hip-hop scene. BTS actually left the dorm they had lIVEd in before their debut not long ago and moved to a new place. With this as a motif, I created a song that contains the regret of leaving a beloved lodging and the excitement of a new home. You can get a glimpse into BTS' past days through the lyrics, which bring out memories of their former accommodations one by one.
9. Outro: Love is Not Over
A track that catches your ears with only a minimalist composition and calm vocals. Jungkook, the main vocalist of BTS, attempted producing for the first time and also revealed his self-taught piano skills. You can enJOY the faint voices of the vocal line (Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook) that gradually grows with each album.
